Get ready for a wild ride on Coronation Street because Becky Swain's return is about to turn explosive! Some are calling it a desperate attempt to reclaim her family, but others see something far more sinister brewing. Is Becky's love a genuine desire for reconciliation, or is it a dangerous obsession that will leave a trail of destruction in its wake?
Since dramatically returning from the 'dead' back in September, Becky Swain's presence has been nothing short of disruptive. She's not just stirring the pot between her wife, Lisa Swain, and Lisa's new fiancée, Carla Connor; she seems utterly determined to win back both Lisa and their teenage daughter, Betsy, regardless of the consequences. It's a classic love triangle, but with a potentially volatile twist.
And it's about to get a whole lot more complicated. Corrie boss Kate Brooks recently dropped a bombshell, revealing that Becky's reign of terror is only just beginning, and she's set to become a full-blown villain. "I'm not going to pull any punches – Becky is a bit of a villain," Kate declared at a recent press event. "She's come back, and she knows what she wants – she wants her family back. She wants Betsy. She wants Lisa back. And she wants to oust Carla from this very happy home life that she's created."
Kate further elaborated on Becky's strategy, explaining, "The thing that she's capable of doing the best is reminding Lisa of the life they had. They were together for a long time. They've got a child together. There's that history between them, and there's that love there." This history is clearly a powerful weapon in Becky's arsenal, but is it enough to break up Lisa and Carla?
Now, Amy Cudden, the actress who brings Becky to life, has offered even more insight into her character's darker motivations in an exclusive interview with Inside Soap. "Becky's love is obsessive," Amy revealed. "It can tip over into ownership, which isn't healthy love, and that's how she feels. There is a sense of, 'This is my family', 'This is my wife', 'This is my daughter'."
But here's where it gets controversial... Is it really love if it's rooted in a sense of ownership? Amy herself acknowledges the inherent problem: "But really, if you love someone, they don't belong to you because you make room for them to be free – and that doesn't go well with Becky’s deep goal." This raises a crucial question: Can Becky truly love Lisa and Betsy if she's trying to control their lives?
And this is the part most people miss... Amy also hinted at the escalating stakes and the potential involvement of her police boss, DI Costello, in Becky's schemes. “The stakes just get higher!” Amy teased. “What everybody wants is in conflict with each other. The road is going to get bumpier, but it will be a really fun road to travel down. And the fans should keep an eye on Costello…"
What exactly does Costello have to do with Becky's villainous plot? Could this be a case of abuse of power, or is Costello simply being manipulated by Becky? This development promises to add another layer of intrigue to the already complex storyline.
